For Epoch 316 Smart Contract transactions were 45% of all Cardano transactions.
Estimate is that Plutus Script Compression, which should be delivered as part of Charles Babbage HFC event (colloquially: hard fork), should reduce average Plutus Script size from about 5.8kb to 2kb.
Growth in metadata transactions can be attributes to @SundaeSwap and the fact that their swaps use metadata keys.

Is the size of #Plutus scripts always maximised? i.e whatever it can fit? Or does it vary?
If not it could be nice to see that in terms of KB how it varies in total over time or smth

It is very possible now that Plutus Memory Limits have been raised.

Basically Plutus is unoptimised now, they are working hard now to optimise Plutus as series of small mini HFC events. Bigger fish to fry is scheduled for February 2022 - so called Charles Babbage hard fork.
