That’s all one needs (on-chain), to get trustless bridges, trustless rollups and other types of scalability, and more.
Cardano is taking a similar approach with Midnight. Presumably we put a ZKP validator on Cardano mainchain, and all proofs are generated on the Midnight side...

But I still don't get it, is Midnight a Cardano L2 or a completely separate chain?
It's a matter of perspective. Midnight will have functionality that Cardano doesn't. Same vice versa. It makes sense to not cram everything on top of Cardano, as it would require a lot of changes on the base protocol. This way it's best of both worlds.
It‘s definetly a very exciting project, but I wonder how the „cardano remains right in the heart of everything will play out“. I just don‘t know how useful the synergies are, or rather, midnight being much more useful and no one will use Cardano…
It seems to me like you are moving away from Cardano and towards Midnight chain now. What about all those investors in Cardano's future? (playing devil's advocate here, but people need to understand if they should sell ada for Midnight or not)

From my understanding, Midnight is implementing a side chain to the existing Cardano network. Utilitising it's reliability and security, whilst delivering the protection side to users.
