"As a community leader you want to decentralize yourself asap — remember it's about the community — not you!" @erinmikail

It is SO damn fun to watch friends absolutely nail it. @daniellexo and @erinmikail, you are extraordinary.

This is an @erinmikail appreciation tweet, full vibes. 🤩

Hanging out with @RosielandHQ folks @erinmikail @fionalouisech to talk community is good motivation to get up at 5:30am PDT! #RosielandAdventure ☕️

Well said Erin. People forget or don't care that they're human beings on the brand accounts. You, working on the brand account have to remain professional and cordial, regulating your emotions while listening to what they say. Filtering out all their swearing of course!

We're already getting turned on to so many great podcasts from your reactions! Thank you so much, Erin! 💖💖

OH DAMN! you really tyring to get my braincells spinning huh

Community engagement looks different now, but i'm going to go ahead and argue that it shouldn't look different -- this "new normal" is what we should have been doing all along

✅online fans are real fans
✅don't overwhelm your audience
✅ listen more than you talk

Invite people to play with you:

🎧Collaborative playlists are cool: join us in our guilty pleasure dance party playlist open.spotify.com/playlist/0Hjth…

🕹Animal Crossing and twitch has been a huge hit - obviously. Create a little island escape with your friends.

How can we connect online and continue to be human?

✅Ask someone how they're doing, and give them permission to say they're not okay.
✅Provide opportunities to play
✅Don't be afraid to try something different -- we're in unprecedented times, time to do unprecedented things

"I have a bad feeling about this..."

For most humans, this phrase wouldn't cause you to bat an eye or even think twice.

For Star Wars nerds this phrase is so much more.

Here's why we should pay more attention to nerds if we truly want to create better communities. 🤓👇

Listened to all of it! 🔥🔥🔥

Loved the discussion on creator economy and how younger people are starting to accept niche hobbies and building communities & identities around it.

💯on not making profit the center point of community building. Always never have been. ✅

@d2cinsider worth creating something like this for Indian D2C brands?

While community creators have roots in nerdom, it’s no longer just for the geeks.

The community creator is for anyone who is absolutely passionate about something.

So thrilled to be speaking with some of the brightest minds on the future of new creators!

1⃣ The New Wave of Niche Journalism Creators 🌊

Many folks are thinking about the concept of the media solopreneur:

- Substack
- Podcast hosts
- YouTube channels
- TikTok

This is great!

But if you want to find your niche + grow, let’s think about PRODUCT MARKET FIT in media!

A THREAD WITH 🐈

1/

Now, we have the internet - and the internet is great! It’s given us more opportunity to create, share, and discover new content.

However we now have 193829 places to find content, all incentivized with their own algorithms, it can be a bit overwhelming 😅

3/

Add in the fact that NEARLY EVERYONE is a content creator - even if they wouldn’t define themselves as a content creator.

Facebook had 2.6 BILLION monthly active users in the first quarter of 2020.

Let’s think about that in eyeballs!

statista.com/statistics/264…

Content creators and solopreneurs should think about how their content stacks up in all the things on the internet.

NEWSFLASH: you’re competing against all the other things on the internet. Including cats. And cats dominate the internet. 🐈

5/

But there’s one last test to product / market fit I don’t think we talk about enough: MONETIZATION.

You know you’ve nailed it when people will pay for your product.

Cats are free - remember you’re competing against cats on the web

Is your content > cute internet cats?

8/

Community isn't just a magic one-size fit all money-making machine (nor should we treat it that way)!

• it takes time!
• never efficient to scale!
• relationships aren't transactional!

Gamers, YouTubers, and other internet celebrities have been doing this for some time.
