As Charles has explained in the past. Sidechains on Cardano can be maintained by the SPO community which will allow for those SPOs to earn ADA rewards and sidechain rewards as well. If this is how the Midnight coin is distributed from the beginning this could be insanely HUGE!

The Midnight privacy coin and blockchain will have smart contracts.
Having smart contracts that devs can build with typescript is a differentiator, was announced.
Believe the announcement page says "Midnight will be a data protection-based blockchain" not necessarily a "privacy coin."
