Carrot Conjecture

One unit of production,one "carrot" used to cost exactly one carrot. Sometimes half a carrot,sometimes two,but invariably you over time got two carrots back for your trouble. Now, ONE unit of production costs THREE units. Won't you still,as always,get TWO back?
