Word on the street (based on Charles' speech at Edinburgh in Nov. 22) is that World Mobile will run on Cosmos and will be connected to #Cardano through a Sidechain.
What are the reasons for this somewhat unexpected choice ? @WorldMobileTeam #CardanoCommunity
Some of the answers to this post from the #CardanoCommunity give us some insights about the WHY and HOW #WorldMobile could leverage Cosmos tech and be Sidechain of Cardano.
Here is my (not so much technical) view on it from the answers and my personal researchs ๐
pretty sure when you make a sidechain you can use whatever consensus/rules you want.
If they build a cosmos compatible one, great. They obviously still want the security/anchor of the Cardano blockchain. If anything it might show the way for other projects to do the same
Doesn't it bother you that they are using another chain for their operation? It kind of look like Cardano wasn't good enough for their use... Or maybe it just doesn't fit their specific needs.
In any case, I would really like some explanation form World Mobile or IOHK...
Cosmos SDK seems to be, at the moment, the "go to" open-source software development kit to create custom blockchains.
World Mobile will probably create their own blockchain with it and then connect it to #Cardano through the Sidechain model described by Charles.
The Cosmos SDK would greatly simplify be the process of creating a Blockchain and would offer customizable parameters and functions for the specifics needs of World Mobile.
I recall him mentioning this possibility but my understanding is It will not run on cosmos mainnet. It may be similar or identical but will be a sidechain of Cardano running it's own validator nodes. Different use cases need different properties.
WorldMobile is running a cardano sidechain on cosmos.
According to Charles. WMT is being built on cosmos with the view of making it a future sidechain of Cardano.(From my limited understanding) When community picks up on this detail, manyay question what WMT cardano native token value is rn & sell.. let's see.
Ya the whole point of Cardano sidechains is interoperability and scalability.

World mobile consensus layer was always going to be a side chain technology for earth node operators to validate upon.

At 43:40 it states, WMT was built on Cosmos SDK and is using Tendermint. Cosmos is consensus layer with settlement on #Cardano.
@CloverNodes @PoolShamrock do you have any info on this or its implications?
I'd be curious as to their reasons, but I suspect they are looking for more sovereignty over their app chain (such as selecting validators). Cosmos would be a good choice if this is the goal. Though tricky to launch a token on one chain and then move, that's an odd move.
It was a legitimate question based on discussions in the Cardano Community... The problem here is not the question but the lack of info about it from WM.
We can only assume that they will use the Cosmos SDK to plug into the Cardano Blockchain through a dedicate sidechain.

Sidechains to #Cardano will not be Cardano itself, right? And technically every everything build "on" cosmos is it's own chain, as with #avalanche subnets. I don't see the problem.

Given that itโs a side chain, I would imagine it uses Cardanoโs consensus layer. I think itโs simply being used to create interoperability between World Mobile (which lives on Cardano currently) and cosmos due to lack of ability to do permissioned side chains currently
What is the relationship between your sidechain and Cardano? Is Cardano main chain used for anything or do all processes occur on the sidechain?
Is the sidechain the one earth node operatore will operate on?
